Things to do in Bali

First, I will like to say Bali is a mix of beaches, serene mountains, sunset points, peaceful temples, and rock clubs.

1. Timing :

Check their ceremonies date, be it Galungan (Balinese New Year) for beautiful photos and great cultural events, or Nyepi ( Silence Day) where you can not do anything but stay at your accommodation.

2. Location :

Do you want it to be quiet and still untouched? Pretty much nothing but a beautiful place to snorkel: Amed

Do you want it rowdy and noisy with people asking (harassing) you to buy their stuff or massage packet or nightclub hopping: Kuta

Do you want a more middle-class urban kind of holiday? Lots of hips B&B places to items of clothing to authentic coffee shops: Anywhere around Seminyak to Canggu

Are you coming with yoga in mind? Head nowhere else but Ubud. Of course, it’s the center of arts as well there alongside those cheeky monkeys.

Crowds

Quiet: north and western coast

Loud: south coast

3. Weather :

Low season = Rainy season

4. Religious rule

If you are visiting some temple, don't dress too revealing. You will still need to wrap your legs with a scarf for both men and woman.

For women: if you are on your period cycle, you cannot get into all of the beautiful temples here so plan accordingly.

If you see a beautiful offering placed on the ground, don’t intentionally step on it.

5. Traffic and transportation :

If you’ve been to Jakarta or heard about the traffic, Bali is gradually getting there.

You can rent your bike or car but make sure you got your international driving license ready though.

If not, download Uber apps and travel in style at a great price.

If you need a taxi, just make sure you get the one using an ergometer. If not, back to the previous point.

If at one point you are dealing with the authorities, just go with the flow. My tips would be to prepare two wallets. One with your actual money inside your secret pocket, the other with probably around 25k rupiah to 60k just in case.

6. Meds :

Bali got numerous international hospital you can go in case something happens.

Bali belly can happen or probably not. Depend on where you go to eat and their cleanliness. Drink lots of water too.

Prepare your sun lotion. It’s not cheap here. Getting sunburn on your second day is not fun.

7. Dress code :

Some restaurants have dress code such as no sandals and no Bintang shirt. So check it out first by google or call them.

8. Greetings

Selamat pagi = good morning

Tolong = please

Terima Kasih = thank you

Call the guys Bli if they are younger or about your age and Pak if they are older.

Call the ladies Mbok and Bu.

9. Miscellaneous

watch out for tourist scams! Do your research.

That’s all I can think about.
