Edinburgh is not only one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, it is a city with a fantastic position. The view falls on all sides – green hills, the hint of the blue sea, the silhouettes of the buildings and the red cliffs. Edinburgh is easily one of my top favorite cities, so let's dive into the meat of it.
Edinburgh Castle
Man, if you like castles, this is a real castle. Take Sandeman's tour and really get to know the amazing stories of conquest and seige and maybe learn a bit about Game of Thrones while you're there. Very foreboding and picturesque. Also a moat.
Calton Hill
Epic view of the entire city and landscape? Check. Odd, out of place monuments and an observatory? Check. Occasional hippy parties? You betcha.
St. Giles Cathedral
Not an 'actual' cathedral, but it looks a lot like one. Epic gothic architecture and beautiful stained glass - can't miss a peak at this beautiful behemoth.
Scott Monument
The scariest monument ever. Largest monument for a write in the world. Definitely the inspiration for Lord of the Rings.
The Scottish Highlands
Though not technically in Edinburgh, this is the one thing you should not miss out on while in Scotland. Head up to Loch Ness for a day tour or make a weekend out of it and visit the Isle of Skye. Don't Miss This.
Edinburgh City Streets
One thing that most people miss out on in the urgency to do and see things is the actual beauty of the city itself. Go for a walk down random stairwells and back alleys and discover places and views you'd never imagined. Edinburgh is the opposite of NYC - it's hilly and windy and old and just the coolest place to get lost in.
